چکیده

INTRODUCTION Calcitonin is a very sensitive marker of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). High concentrations of basal or pentagastrin stimulated calcitonin in patients with MTC is a signal of recurrence or metastatic disease. Detection of metastatic foci remains a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The aim of the study was to present examples of the use of ⁶⁸Ga-DOTA-TATE PET-CT examinations in the diagnosis of patients with MTC and concomitant elevated serum calcitonin concentrations. Initially the study involved eight patients with MTC and elevated basal or stimulated calcitonin, in which earlier diagnostic imaging was negative for metastasis: neck ultrasound, chest and mediastinal CT scan, liver MRI, bone scintigraphy, and ¹⁸F-FDG-PET. A total body scan was performed using ⁶⁸Ga-DOTA-TATE PET-CT. Two patients with positive diagnostic imaging tests were referred for surgery including resection of cervical lymph nodes with histopathological examination for assessment of metastases. CONCLUSIONS On the basis of the presented cases we conclude that PET-CT scan with somatostatin analogue labelled with gallium (⁶⁸Ga-DOTA-TATE PET-CT) may be useful in the diagnostic imaging of patients with disseminated MTC.

Ga-68 DOTATATE PET/CT in Neuroendocrine Tumors: Initial Experience

Introduction: Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms, majority of which express somatostatin (SST) receptors. Recently, with the widespread use of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and development of novel PET tracers like Ga-68 DOTA peptide which specifically bind to somatostatin receptors (SSTR), Ga-68 DOTA peptide PET/CT is used in manageme...

Gallium-68 Dotatate PET/CT is superior to other imaging modalities in the detection of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid in the presence of high serum calcitonin.

OBJECTIVE Medullary carcinoma of the thyroid (MTC) is a rare neuroendocrine tumour (NET) that expresses somatostatin receptors on the cell membrane and secretes calcitonin. Surgery is the primary curative modality but is achieved only when the diagnosis is timely so there is a high rate of persistent and recurrent disease indicated by a rise in the serum calcitonin levels. Successful management...

Depicting Medullary Thyroid Cancer Recurrence: The Past and the Future of Nuclear Medicine Imaging

CONTEXT Inherited and sporadic medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) is an uncommon and medically challenging malignancy. Even if the extent of initial surgery is deemed adequate, the recurrence rate remains high, up to 50% in most series. Measurement of serum calcitonin is important in the follow-up of patients with MTC, and reliably reflects the existence of the disease. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION There...

The diagnostic role of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in the detection of neuroendocrine tumours.

BACKGROUND Positron emission tomography (PET) combined with computer tomography (CT) using (68)Ga-DOTATATE is a promising method for the evaluation of patients with recognised or suspected neuroendocrine tumours (NET). The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic value of (68)Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in the visualisation of the expression of somatostatin receptors (SSTR) and identification of n...

Automatic Segmentation of the Gross Tumor Volume in Prostate Carcinoma Using Fuzzy Clustering in Gallium-68 PSMA PET/CT Scan

Introduction: Modern radiotherapy (RT) techniques allow a highly precise deposition of the radiation dose in tumor. So, high conformal tumor doses can be reached while sparing critical organs at risk. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in three phases. In the first phase; Fourteen patients with primary or recurrent prostate cancer receive Gallium-...
